Our answer, developed over many years of photographing here, is to alternate deliberately between wide establishing shots that place the couple within the legendary architecture, and intimate close compositions where the couple fills the frame and the pink walls and palm canopy provide a soft, warm frame. The late afternoon light at The Royal Hawaiian — particularly in the hour before sunset on the west-facing Ocean Lawn — is among the most beautiful we encounter anywhere on Oahu.
